Hot and getting hotter

Much done so far today. Domestic & workwise. I’ve spent a lot of time sorting out the summer playscheme, the beginning of the summer holidays are rapidly approaching.

Saturday morning

Cleaning and listening to the new radio 4 9am programme, this time about writing a novel. Hmm, maybe I should take another look at the writing I did in 2004? Anyway, cousin Adam should be honoured. I’ve hoovered (roomba did it really), cleaned the kitchen (using white wine vinegar with lavendar essential oil - I wonder if I could sell this as a cleaning product - it’s so much nicer to use than bleach or detergent), I’ve even replaced the broken toilet handle (though one screw has gone missing, there appears to be one extra, and the thing wobbles slightly. It still looks nice. I wonder if I should charge the estate agent for my plumbing services! - which reminds me, they’ve not come round to fix the ceiling above my bed which leaks in the rain & leaves bits of plaster on my pillow).

Friday - where have the clouds gone?

It’s 8am, bright and sunny (as ever since our Czech housemates came to the UK - maybe they’re some kind of lucky charm).

Cats fed & drugged (melia - thyroid), kitchen cleaned, coffee made, milkman paid & tomatoes watered (rainwater nearly gone now. I need to fix the shower holder because people are taking really short showers because it’s awkward, and I need their shower water for the strawberries!). Now, I’ll do some Mirpuri bid writing before going to meet Fran.

I also have the letters to our Czech neighbours in South Bohemia to post… hope Mike is okay with what I said in them. I wonder if anyone will take us up on our offer of a place to stay in Birmingham? Also, need Mike to register yet another domain name for me. Can you have ampersands in url addresses?

Thursday - yet another sunny morning

I was listening to Prince Charles’s speech to BITC (business in the community) on the radio this morning, while making a valient effort to clean the kitchen. I hope other people are beginning to realise we need to do something about climate change right now.

I also hope that my flat mates carry the torch of kitchen cleaning for the rest of the day. I’m trying to save the world, for goodness sake, it’s annoying having to stop to do the dishes, and clear up fur balls & stolen chicken bones (blame cats, not flatmates!). Eco wise - I’m boiling the dish cloth every morning & using vinegar with lavendar essential oil as a disinfectant.

Wednesday 12th July - more blue sky inspiration

Thinking this morning about the washing, then about Ecover washing powder (which, as an eco-entrepreneur of course I use - meaning that I sacrifice the finances for a night out every time I buy it), then wondering if I could get Ecover to confirm that their product could go through a system like GROW. It would be fantastic if the grey water from your washing machine could be recycled for the garden/other uses. Perhaps we could have a ‘recommends’ style advert in the manner of ‘use ariel in your hotpoint washing machine’ or something similar. Either that or, find a washing powder manufacturer who could produce a bog brand washing powder specifically for that purpose. This’ll do as a temporary fix until I can sell people water free washing machines!

Another sunny morning…

And my water butts are nearly empty. I rain water harvest from the shed and from the shanty town style extension next door, but even this is doing little good. I may have to break into the down pipe from the bath & divert this to the water but. Hmm, not sure my landlord would like it. The strawberries are very bedraggled - which reminds me! I need to get in contact with Dick Strawbridge about that glass exploding machine on ‘it’s not easy being green.’

Monday morning locked out of the bathroom

It’s 9am monday morning.

I was woken by the sound of various people rattling the bathroom door handle. And no, I’d not gone to sleep on the floor by the toilet (but I can name others who have). I felt a rising sense of foreboding. It was a bit like deja vue - but no, the bathroom door has previous form. Not at 8am on a Monday morning though.
Somehow, during the night, the bathroom door has locked itself. Last time this happened, it was the day after our flatmate Marco had moved in. For a tense hour or so, Jack & I thought that we might find someone collapsed on the floor.
