Friday 25th August - Process Instrumentation Diagram

Continuing with the 3d process instrumentation diagram on Blender.

Also, should contact sun-mar to see what the feasability is of having their units produced in the UK when I can order significant quantities. Haven’t tried out the skype phone handset on the new computer… called Dad. Phone seems fine. The sound card seems to have sorted out it’s drivers somehow without me doing it.

Canada - it’s now about 5am in the morning over there, so if I phone at 3pm - it’ll be first thing in their morning.

Czech Typing lesson

Nic’s guide to learning to type Czech:

If you can touch type, you will already have a grasp of where the numbers are on a keyboard.  When you switch your keyboard to Czech,  the positions of numbers will be taken by the  letters in the Czech alphabet which have additional marks on them.

    Instead of

    1    2    3    4    5    6    7    8    9    0

    +    ě    š    č     ř    ž    ý     á    í    é          will  appear.

So, based on a handy system of mnemonics,  below is a suggestion of  how these characters might be remembered. Read the rest of this entry »

Mouse on elastic

Thursday morning.

Feeling a bit lost since returning from our Czech dream. Today my new (ebay) computer is playing up - the pointer is acting like it is attached to elastic & the virus definitions won’t update properly. This is incredibly frustrating. Like trying to thread a needle every time you need to move somewhere on the screen. And my technical helpline is not available.

Nine days in South Bohemia

Monday

The journey yesterday seemed to take forever. Tiago gave us a lift to the airport, but we went really early because of potential delays for extra security. Everything at the airport went smoothly, though we had 5 hours in the departure lounge because the plane was late. I was concerned that the car hire place at Prague airport would have closed, but we were okay… they’d kept it open after hours for us – for a fee. At least we weren’t going to be stuck in Prague for the night.

Wednesday back in Birmingham

So, home now, and like I was never anywhere else. Woke up to find that the cat had been sick in my new shoes. Made coffee & sent Mike off to work. He’s now home again as apparently there was a shooting at the Custard Factory (where their offices are) last night & the place is closed off now.
How good was that holiday! Now I need to earn some money. At least we have Internet access here. Need to find out about 4g over there

Only 3 days left

before we go on holiday. I’m going to take my computer with me and continue learning blender while we’re away. Mike is putting in really long hours to finish projects before we go. I’ve no idea what it’ll be like.

Today. We have someone coming round to see the room that Martin is moving out from tonight. I did loads of cleaning yesterday (and sorted out the garden a bit). So, the house is looking quite respectable.

Monday monday

So, spent too much time this morning trying to sort out the £416 electricity bill I’d been sent by good energy. Though the direct debit was set up, they hadn’t got round to billing me, so they’ve saved up the debt instead of taking it out monthly! Joy.

Accidently locked one cat in and one cat out last night, so also actual sxxt to deal with too.  Have locked stupido out of the office as too annoyed this morning to deal with the cat crashing onto my desk & deleting/scrumpling documents. Read the rest of this entry »

How the idea for bog developed

I’ve been interested in shipping containers used for other purposes since seeing a programme called ‘guerilla homes’ shown on BBC 3, I think in 2004. I am interested in green roofs after being emailed a flyer about the concept a few years ago. I’ve been going on at people about green roofs for some time now as they are a great solution - moving biodiversity upwards rather than out of our cities. After watching a programme called ‘Its not easy being green’ where I saw an item where they made a water wheel using a generator attached, I followed some leads to find a generator supplier, who was also a wind turbine manufacturer Read the rest of this entry »

Cloudy Friday

So, spent part of yesterday learning Blender, and part celebrating the birthday of lovely lisa. It’s not been the most productive week, really. Just goes to show that drinking alcohol does me no good at all. Did, however, find this site - a design inspiration blog. Some really great ideas!
This morning I’ve started an email to a Czech person from Vlceves and sorted out the hotel for Mum & Phil’s visit. Phoned the lawyer in Prague & he’s not in till Tuesday, so still don’t have a progress report from him.

So far in Blender I’ve made a stick man that looks like he’s swallowed a canoe. Just looking on the blender artists site to see if the guy’s got back to me about the competition and found this. I wonder how I can get advice from people who do architecture type stuff in Blender?

It’s exciting & frustrating. If I had a model of bog people could really see what it could achieve. But the process of learning how to use Blender myself!

Thanks for your email.

Co studovat? Mate rada Praha? je drahy, ze ano?

What are you studying? Do you like Prague? it’s expensive, isn’t it?

Je legrace, ze ano, lidi od krajina mysli velke mesto je lepsi, a lidi od mesto
prefere krajina!
It’s funny, isn’t it, people from the countryside think it’s better in the city,
and people in the city prefer the countryside.

Doufam, ze koupit starou oranjovy skoda, a mozne je dobry v krajina.
I hope to buy an old orange skoda, and maybe it’ll be okay in the countryside.

Praha jenom 80 km, a Tabor je 10km. Ale je dlouha na kolo! A je tezky po starobni.
Prague is only 80 km away and Tabor is 10 km. But it’s far on a bicycle. But it’s difficult for old people.
