In Prague - but still knitting
Mike found a fantastic hotel deal on lastminute.com, so now we’re in Prague. In bed, in a nice hotel with a good wireless internet connection.
We arrived 3 hours ago. We’ve been out for dinner, had a look round the tourist route (Old town square, Charles Bridge, Joe’s bar - the law is that you have to go there for your first glass of Czech beer.). Then back to the hotel to sort out the Ebay shop.
Things are so different from when I lived here (over 10 years ago) … like the Internet is available here so there’s a real opportunity for us to be able to work from here.
I’m still knitting away to stock a stall at Moseley Farmers Market. So far I have 8 hats made of reclaimed cashmere/mohair/wool. Some of them I will need to dye first. I remember there being a wool shop near here (hmm… ten years ago) so I might go and see if Czech wool is less than the crazy prices it sells for in the UK (knitting has gone from a necessity to a very middle class activity hence the very middle class price tags for decent wool - that’s one of the reasons I scour second hand shops and find unfashionable or badly knitted items & rip the wool out.) My sister suggested that I do some mobile phone covers. I had a go last night and was quite pleased with the results. I just don’t know what will sell till I try to sell them. Maybe I should put one on Ebay to see.
Knitting has such a strangely addictive quality. I was really annoyed to find out that knitting needles were not permitted in hand luggage, depriving me of several hours valuable knitting time! As it was, I was forced to read the economist instead - which had loads of interesting articles & didn’t seem to be about economics very much at all.

Also have been thinking about having sterling silver 500 year vision logos stamped out to put on the knitwear. I need to find a company who will do a trial run of 200 of them. they need to be the size of a 10p or 5p coin (not sure which will be best yet), hallmarked and numbered. Currently I don’t know if I can have them produced in a way that would be cost effective. There’s a company in Birmingham that I need to contact for a quote.
Can’t wait to go to our house tomorrow!!! In the mean time I shall make the most of Prague & the lovely hotel.
