Paypal & Royal Mail print postage
Hmm, things are very, very quiet on the Ebay front at present.
I’ve been trying to sort out Paypal. In order to change to my married name, you actually have to FAX stuff to them. Via a fax machine (a type of technology for sending documents before the Internet was invented). Didn’t they get wrid of those in the 80’s?. I have scans of relevant docs such as my marriage certificate & other ID cards, however absolutely no access to a fax. It seems so archaic. I’ve requested the email address of their Name Change Department… in the end I had to go through the complaints section of their web site as it kept routing me to a page to print out to fax to them.
Up until this point, each order received, I data enter the address into the Royal Mail online postage system, and then printed the postage out directly onto envelopes. This works very well, though you always thing there must be a way round data entry. And now Paypal claim there is! They are advertising a new component to paypal linking it to Royal Mail. Unfortunately, after spending a good couple of hours trying to follow Paypal instructions to activate this, I seem to be no closer. Maybe they are updating their internet site at present because I keep being told “You have requested an outdated version of PayPal“!
I’ve been told that there’s an ethical issue with Paypal because the BNP use it to accept donations. The thing is, that it’s so easy to use that just about any crackpot organisation could set up an account. It’s this easy:
I would be interested to know what Paypal do to limit their use by shady or unlawful organisations. Could someone set themselves up an account to launder money from drugs, for example?
So. Yet again. I’m not packing and getting ready to go to the Czech Republic tomorrow. On the plus side, there’s been more entries to the blender artists’ bog competition. I can’t wait to be able to put together a decent site for the product & persuade suppliers to lend me the components to build the prototype.
Date my mate wise… I’m just experiementing with Google Analytics at present. It gives you the kind of data about site use that marketing people dream of. I know where people come from, how long they stay… just not yet quite sure why they visit once and don’t come back! Anyway. Should really get on with packing now. Plenty of time for this in Tabor.
