Bog - the accessible eco bathroom in a box
Bog is an accessible eco bathroom within a free standing structure which can be put anywhere. Bog means that an accessible bathroom can be placed in a garden, on a car park, on the premises of buildings with preservation orders, or adjoining the offices of a small business, without needing to connect to mains electricity, water or waste treatment.
Bog utilises the best solutions we have for including everyone in our society alongside our most efficient, planet-saving energy and water usage technology. It combines rainwater collection, solar water heating and micro electricity generation with an integrated roof mounted grey water treatment system, making it independent of mains connected water, waste treatment and electricity.
Bog is available to buy as an ‘off the shelf’ solution to schools, community groups, small businesses and individual home-owners. In fact, to anyone who wants to cater for wheelchair users and others, as well as showcase green technology.
Bog is built in partnership with commercial organisations. A luxury version is available from £15,000 plus, depending on specific specifications for the facility. We aim to deliver the ‘bog standard’ unit (catering primarily for not for profit organisations) for under £10,000.
Why bog?
-
Bog is the only available independent accessible bathroom system – patent application 0610262.8
-
Bog is elegant: we prove that accessible doesn’t have to mean ugly; bog’s internal elements are well thought out in terms of style as well as function.
- Bog is an excellent marketing tool. Bog will be a very visible statement of sustainable and inclusive business practice in line with Corporate Social Responsibility policies.
-
Bog is simple – the unit is prefabricated off-site, so we deliver it and it’s ready to go.
-
Bog is wholly independent – no need to add on the expense of connecting the unit to mains water, electricity and sewage.
-
Bog retains the high quality and low cost you would expect from a production line build.
-
Bog is a cost-effective way of catering for the 1 in 50 people in the UK who are wheelchair users (data from the NHS). Bog includes a changing table for older children as well as a shower facility, in line with the current Mencap campaign ‘changing places – changing lives’.
-
Bog is a temporary building & can be hired, repositioned or resold, ensuring that planning permission will be more easily arranged and you can adapt the unit as your needs change.
-
Bog is supremely ecological. Since the unit produces more energy than it needs, the surplus can be used elsewhere - for example to provide shower facilities for cyclists, hot water for hot tubs or electricity for battery powered vehicles.
-
Bog includes storage space in which community groups could house play equipment, households keep a car or motorised scooter, or a small business utilise as a lockable bike shed.
-
Bog includes water storage – treated grey water can be used for gardening and toilet flushing, while separately collected rain water can be diverted for first time use.
-
Bog provides biodiversity – the reed bed green roof and shingle bed for rainwater collection provide a great mini habitat for a range of wildlife – and out of reach of little humans.
-
Bog provides cooling greenery in an urban environment through the evaporation of water as well as the oxygenating role of the reed beds.
-
Bog can be added on to an existing building, incorporated into a new build or can even stand independently.
-
Bog can provide storm water storage to mitigate the effects of increasingly heavy rain within non-absorbent urban areas.
-
Bog has a small footprint spacial terms, just a couple of car parking spaces.
-
Bog is an attractive building – the unit will simply look good on your premises.
-
Bog is varied. Children can be involved in the design – the outside walls can be decorated in many ways including print media which can be changes on a regular basis.
-
Bog meets your Disability Discrimination Act responsibilities with ease – this is a great ‘reasonable adjustment’ to make to the needs of those with disabilities.
